1945

Our Lady of Peace School

GIMNASIO VERMONT is a female educational institution, founded on February 19, 1945, by Miss María Rojas Sánchez and Magdalena González Fernández, with the name of Our Lady of Peace School. The name responded at the time to the end of the Second World War; thus, the dedication to the Virgin.

Graduation of the first class

It stood out from the beginning for its faith in the benefits that education brings to the fulfillment of human beings and in its ability to transform reality.

1994

Changed its name to GIMNASIO VERMONT

A partnership was made for the teaching of English as a second language with Saint Michael’s College, located in the state of Vermont, in the United States. Based on the agreement, the school’s bilingual program was established, the name was changed to Gimnasio Vermont and the school calendar was changed to B.

Coeducation with a gender perspective

An innovative model of coeducation with a gender perspective was launched. With this change, the female school stage ended and boys entered preschool for the first time.

The last all female class of the school, which in the same year obtained first place in the country’s Saber 11 tests, graduated.

Graduation of the first class of the coeducation with a gender perspective program

“The first class of the coeducation with a gender perspective program, which obtained third place in the Saber 11 tests, graduated. In this same year, three programs were started: International Baccalaureate, Mandarin as a third language and symphonic music.”

Gimnasio Vermont’s 70th Anniversary Celebration

“For this celebration, the school inaugurated the Gimnasio Vermont Cultural Center, with the arts festival as a tribute to the mythical story of Chinese culture ‘A Bridge of Magpies’. In a special ceremony at Andes University, its rector, Dr. Pablo Navas Sanz de Santamaría, and the Confucius Institute of this institution, on behalf of the Chinese Government, presented us with the Confucius Classroom plaque in recognition of the work carried out in the teaching of Mandarin as a third language as of August 2009. This plaque represents the Chinese government’s support for the school’s program.”
